Secret Garden Themed 80th Birthday Cake
I was asked to make this cake for a client's mother in law to celebrate her 80th birthday.
Having been told that she had a passion for gardening, I decided to try for something elegant and timeless rather than going with a novelty cake.
After some thought I came up with a secret garden theme - a little wooden gate, covered in ivy, leaves and little flowers. I found images of two doors online and used them as inspiration for the gate and added a granite effect on the walls. I loved how the granite look turned out and it was something I hadn't seen before. The whole cake turned out almost exactly like I pictured in my head.
My daughter, Alyx, wanted to help out so she made all the hand cut leaves and flowers. The bottom tier is buttery vanilla cake and the top is chocolate biscuit. I really enjoyed making this cake and could have spent another couple of days adding little details to it.
