Olivia's Winnie The Pooh Christening Cake
This is baby Olivia's Christening cake.
I was really excited when a good friend asked me to make this cake for her daughter. After discussing themes and ideas we decided to use her favourite book from her childhood - Winnie The Pooh - and Roo, her favourite character from the book.
I really wanted it to look like a painting from the vintage Pooh books rather than the modern Disney animated characters. I also wanted to find a nice quote from the book. After narrowing the selection down to a couple of choices I settled on one that I felt was perfect for the occasion.
I struggled to find vintage images online as Roo only appeared in a few of the original books and was quite small. I even had a friend visit some bookshops to try to find a picture. Eventually we found something suitable.
The cake is 8 inches high and made from chocolate biscuit, covered in chocolate gnash and then white fondant. Roo was drawn freehand on the cake and then handpainted with airbrush paints. Olivia's name was also hand drawn with the garland doubling up as the O. The cake was topped off with a hand made bow that cascaded down the sides and the base was finished with a wooden effect.
